Support Now Available for Chrome OS 96

Jan 10, 2022

Reported system vulnerabilities due to Log4j prompted recent operating system (OS) updates from many providers including Google with the release of Chrome OS 96. Cambium Assessment, Inc. (CAI) and IDOE worked together to complete compatibility testing to support schools. CAI now supports Chrome OS 96 for all spring assessment windows.

During compatibility testing, CAI identified some abnormalities when the text-to-speech (TTS) tool was in use. Examples include a delay in TTS initiating after being selected or that the “Speak Option” function must be selected twice before the text will be read. Schools may wish to consider using other devices to administer assessments to students requiring TTS. IDOE will provide additional updates when these issues are resolved or as more information becomes available.

It is not necessary for Chromebook devices to be updated, as the minimum version (OS 91) will continue to be supported. Users moving to OS 96 do not need to update their secure browser. The Indiana Assessment Portal’s Supported Browsers and Secure Browsers webpages are updated with this support. Please contact CAI’s Indiana Assessment Help Desk with any questions.
